Happy Independence Day

Conumer Reports survey of more than 14,000 subscribers ranks chiropractors #1 for satisfaction with their back-pain treatments and advice.
About 80% percent of U.S. adults have at some point been bothered by back pain. The Consumer Reports Health Ratings Center recently surveyed more than 14,000 subscribers who had lower-back pain in the past year but had never had back surgery. More than half said pain severely limited their daily routine for a week or longer, and 88 percent said it recurred through the year. Many said the pain interfered with sleep, sex, and efforts to maintain a healthy weight.
Most respondents tried five or six different treatments. They rated the helpfulness of the treatments tried and their satisfaction with the health-care professionals visited.
Hands-on therapies were among the top-rated. Chiropractors were the highest rated health care professional when compared to physical therapists, acupuncturists, specialty physicians and primary care physicians. More here.
Study shows injured workers whose first visit for the injury was to a chiropractor have substantially better outcomes
A recent study was done to identify early predictors of chronic work disability after work-related back injury. It was found that if the first provider for injury was a Doctor of Chiropractic, the number of those disabled was 5% after 1 year. In comparison, the number of those disabled after 1 year was 12% for Primary Care Physicians, 26% for Occupational Medicine specialists, and 23% for other providers. More here.

Health News
Evidence regarding health benefits of physical activity is overwhelming
Evidence regarding health benefits of physical activity is overwhelming and plays a critical role in both the primary and secondary prevention of coronary artery disease (CAD). Epidemiological investigations show approximately half the incidence of CAD in active compared to sedentary persons. A sedentary lifestyle is considered by various national and international organizations to be one of the most important modifiable risk factors for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Fortunately, a moderate level of occupational or recreational activity appears to confer a significant protective effect. It is obviously in every individual's interest to assume the responsibility for his or her own health and embrace this extremely effective, safe, and inexpensive treatment modality.
