Welcome
The changes continue at Essence of Wellness Chiropractic Center! Spring is upon us and we are looking toward a busy schedule for the office.
In addition to offering CranioSacral Therapy with Jodi Knoll, R.N. and welcoming Avada Audioogy & Hearing Care to our office, we have some other news to share:
New entrance to the office. As many of you know, the entrance to our office is now on South Barron Street (Hwy 127). Previously the entrance was on Frizzel Ave.
Open House at Essence of Wellness. We will be hosting the Eaton-Preble County Chamber of Commerce Toast of the Town event on June 19th from 5-7 p.m. at our office. All patients and their friends/family are welcome to attend. This will be a great chance to network with other businesses in Preble County as well as mingle with the Doctors and Jodi Knoll, R.N. We will be raffling off several prizes at the event, so come join us.
Educational Workshops. We will be offering a few educational workshops over the spring and summer. Our first workshop will be on 'How to Reduce Pain and Inflammation with Diet and Nutritional Supplements'. Dr. Dean Smith will present this first workshop on Thursday, May 29th at 6:30 p.m. in the office. Email us or call to sign-up. A comprehensive set of notes will be provided for those in attendance and healthy food and drinks will be served. The cost of $10 will cover the notes and snacks. Don't miss this opportunity to propel your health to the next level...everyone will benefit from this class!!! Got an idea for a workshop? Let us know.
Email Appointment Reminders. We now have the ability to send out appointment reminders by email. Please let us know if you would like an E-reminder!
What is CranioSacral Therapy and How Can it Help Me?
CST was pioneered and developed by osteopathic physician John E. Upledger following extensive scientific studies from 1975 to 1983 at Michigan State University, where he served as a clinical researcher and Professor of Biomechanics.
CST is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body system called the craniosacral system - comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord.
Using a soft touch generally no greater than 5 grams, or about the weight of a nickel, practitioners release restrictions in the craniosacral system to improve the functioning of the central nervous system.
By complementing the body's natural healing processes, CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and is effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction, including:
- Migraine Headaches
- Chronic Neck and Back Pain
- Motor-Coordination Impairments
- Colic
- Autism
- Central Nervous System Disorders
- Orthopedic Problems
- Traumatic Brain and Spinal Cord Injuries
- Scoliosis
- Infantile Disorders
- Learning Disabilities
- Chronic Fatigue
- Emotional Difficulties
- Stress and Tension-Related Problems
- Fibromyalgia and other Connective-Tissue Disorders
- Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome (TMJ)
- Neurovascular or Immune Disorders
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
- Post-Surgical Dysfunction
Health News
New study finds Chiropractic can help with painful menstruation Menstrual pain associated with primary dysmenorrhea may be alleviated with treatment of motion segment restrictions of the lumbosacral spine with drop table technique. Learn more here.
Nutritional intervention in brain aging: reducing the effects of inflammation and oxidative stress It is estimated that by the year 2050 the elderly (aged 65 or older) population will double the population of children (aged 0-14) for the first time in history. The expansion of the elderly population has already taken a toll on health care systems. In order to alleviate the health care costs and increase the quality of living in the aging population, it is crucial to explore methods that may retard or reverse the deleterious effects of aging. Inflammation and oxidative stress play important roles in brain aging. Nutritional intervention may exert therapeutic protection against age-related deficits and neurodegenerative diseases. Learn more here.
Physical activity, inflammation, and muscle loss Mounting evidence suggests that along with good diet and vitamin supplementation, degenerative loss of muscle that occurs with age can be mitigated with regular physical activity. Without a doubt, exercise is an intervention that reliably counteracts the loss of muscle mass, strength, and power common in our increasingly aged, and pervasively sedentary, population. Let Essence of Wellness help you design an exercise plan that fits your needs. Learn more here.
Have a great day!
Sincerely, Dean L. Smith, DC, PhD Jane P. Smith, DC Jodi Knoll, RN
