THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LIVING AND LIVING WELL

Health-E-Newsletter, February 25, 2005
Dear Wellness Members:

As warm weather becomes more frequent, we will naturally tend to do more activities outside.  For those of you who have been getting adjusted for a while, you will undoubtedly be aware of how to protect your back from injury and how to build a healthy back.  For those of you that might be new to our practice or need a refresher on how to maximize your back health, we will be having some upcoming workshops on the myths and facts of how to build a healthy back for a lifetime!

Believe me, you need to come to these workshops!  What you don't know can hurt you.  Let Dr. Dean provide you with the latest research and techniques on how to optimize your back, prevent injuries and enjoy good health for your lifetime.  This is not just a workshop for adults.  Children need to hear this message as well.  After all, don't we want our children to be healthy for a lifetime as well?  Friends and family are welcome.

Our first class will be on Tuesday, March 22 at 6:30pm at our office.  There is no charge to attend.  Make sure to wear comfortable clothes as we will be demonstrating some exercises.  Mark your calendars now so you don't miss this great learning opportunity.

Are you interested in learning how to exercise correctly to build a healthier and stronger body?  As you may know, Dr. Dean has a Master's degree in exercise science and is a certified strength and conditioning specialist.  He would be happy to talk to you about your exercise plan.  In addition, Dr. Jane is giving a class at Curves in Eaton on Tuesday, March 1st at 7pm and will be discussing chiropractic and exercise.

Chiropractic Improves Overall Health Status
People without symptoms can also benefit from chiropractic.  Primary wellness subjects under chiropractic care demonstrated higher mean serum thiol levels than patients with active disease and produced some values
that were higher than normal wellness values. Serum thiols are a measure of human health status.

Studies Substantially Overestimate Influenza Vaccination Benefit In Elderly
'We attribute the decline in influenza-related mortality among people aged 65 to 74 years in the decade after the 1968 pandemic to the acquisition of immunity to the emerging A(H3N2) virus. We could not correlate increasing vaccination coverage after 1980 with declining mortality rates in any age group. Because fewer than 10% of all winter deaths were attributable to influenza in any season, we conclude that observational studies substantially overestimate vaccination benefit.'
